The library's shelves are tall and grand
But I am small and helpless
Surrounded by the knowledge of the ages
But unable to grasp it
The words on the page swim before my eyes
Their meanings out of reach
I am drowning in a sea of letters
Helpless to save myself
The weight of expectation bears down on me
I am but a mere mortal
Unable to live up to the grand ideals
Of those who hold me dear
I am a mere speck in the universe
Lost in a maze of thought
Helpless to find my way
To make my mark on the world
But even in my helplessness
I find solace in the beauty
Of the words that surround me
The poetry and prose that lift my soul
For in their pages, I find hope
That one day I too may conquer
The knowledge that eludes me
And find my place in the grand scheme of things.
