The chocolate wrapper now turned to ash
The smoke lingers,
I'm trying to pay attention to the book in my lap
I'm trying not to miss a single word, a single dash
With my trailing fingers,
I'm trying to create a roadmap
To save my ship so close to getting lost in the dark sea
To unravel the mysteries and find the key
To let the warm water fill my lungs and set me free
The rose petals all withered now
The smell lingers,
These pages failed to save them and so did I
These pages need to be dried and trained somehow
You remembered my favorite singers,
But I could tell the love was not as fresh as the token
And no one else had ever made me dream with my eyes open
No one else had ever consoled me with the words unspoken
No one else had ever paused to fix the broken
The gold jewellery now gone green
The memory lingers,
You felt so real, I forgot it was all a dream
You played so well, I forgot we're not on the same team
Happy pictures all over,
You scream to my face and tell me not to make a scene
"Changes don't happen overnight", I would've believed you if it wasn't your daily routine
I wish we would end our conversations without a bleeding finger or a broken screen.
